About Kim Charbonneau
What I Know to Be True
When I was young, my parents had a print of a Picasso painting in their living room. It made no sense to me, but I found myself staring at it for long periods of time. I didn’t understand why this art was so important.
Later, I discovered artists like Joan Mitchell, and while I still didn’t fully grasp why I was drawn to their work, I couldn’t look away. I didn’t yet have the emotional capacity to understand Abstract Expressionism—but it wouldn’t leave me alone.
Then life happened—college, marriage, motherhood, divorce. Then, I found yoga. I found myself. I found art.

My Art Is Not a Shared Point of View—It’s Loud, Strong, Brave, Messy, and Always True.
Now, at 61 years old, I know that Abstract Expressionism is about experience, not explanation. Art should strip away the walls between us and the canvas. It asks us to let go of expectations and simply feel.

About Kim Charbonneau
Kim Charbonneau is a self-taught abstract expressionist artist based in Hartford, Connecticut. Her passion for art began during her studies in interior design, where she discovered a deep connection to visual expression—one that goes beyond form and thrives in emotion, movement, and energy.
Her work is bold, layered, and expressive, using color, texture, and depth to evoke a visceral experience rather than a defined subject. Each piece invites the viewer to connect with it on a deeply personal level.
Kim’s paintings have been featured in galleries across Connecticut, including:
Beyond the canvas, Kim is the owner of The Yoga Shop, where she shares her passion for movement, flow, and self-expression—values that also define her artwork.
